In loving memory…

“A sculpture is finished when the light shines through. When the soul has entered. It is the moment the sculpture is on the same level as your heart. Light and shadow are always part of it. In between these two opposites there is energy and that’s how the sculpture can catch all nature’s elements.”

~ Nelson Carrilho

In loving memory of the late sculptor Nelson Carrilho (1953-2026), who passed away suddenly. His Mama Baranka statue in the Vondelpark in Amsterdam gave birth to our Black Madonna Travelogue. He supported our project idea of a travel blog with great enthusiasm and underlined the stories we want to tell about the Divine Mother. Listen here in his own words about the meaning and background of his Black Madonna in the Netherlands.
